Nerdvana XI

Welcome to Nerdvana XI! We are all about celebrating everything geeky and nerdy in the name of charity. We are a group of collaborating societies, coming together with the shared goal of supporting Special Effect, a charity that advocates for better inclusion in gaming, as well as working on new technology to improve the lives of people who live with physical challenges. All proceeds will go towards the charity.

Nerdvana XI, the first of the academic year, will be held upstairs in the Union Building from 7 PM on the 18th until 7 PM on the 19th of November, a whole 24 hours packed full of activities dedicated to charity, where all sorts of mischief will occur. Tickets for the event will cost £5, with the link for such a commodity coming soon.

If you can’t make it to this one, you can always come to the second one of the academic year. Information regarding this will come at a later date.

With all this talk of stuff going on, you may be thinking, what is going on?

On Friday, the 18th, we will be running:

  • The Cosplay Showcase: where you can show off your creativity

  • The Ultimate Werewolf game: for those who dare enter the treachery of Slough

  • The 8-Hour DND game: for the crazy ones who will see it all the way through

  • Karaoke: run by Pure FM, the student radio station

  • The evening bake sale: for all your post-quiz cravings

The fun doesn’t end there. Saturday the 19th is also running:

  • Yoga: to help prepare your body and soul for the next day

  • The morning bake sale: for you brave souls who will try to stay awake till the end

  • Tabletop one-shots: ran by seasoned veterans of all sorts of TTRPGs

  • Wargaming tables: set up for purging the heretics of the God-Emperor of Mankind, or for other Xenos scum

  • Mario Kart tournament: Chris Pratt ain't got nothing on these wheels

The LGBT Society will be hosting a chill out space if you need time to calm down from all the excitement. The Holistics Society will also be hosting a sensory space, if you would like to relax and engage in some less intensive activities.

Cosplay Society will host an area for you to put together your cosplay at the Union, with related amenities being offered.

Gaming Society will have a space for those who wish to beat their friends at Tekken or sharpen up their skills at Mario Kart before the tournament, with even more games available. Board Games Society will also have tables after the quiz with a vast selection of board games.

The Anime Society will be showing a selection of anime and films throughout the event.

Finally, the Ultimate Nerd Quiz.

People with useless knowledge rejoice, this is your chance to shine. Get into teams of 8 and work together to solve the gauntlet ahead of you. Every society involved has added to the list of questions, so make sure that you are covered on the weird and bizarre. The top 3 teams will receive a pool of prizes, put together by us, the organisers.

Lastly, from all of us who have spent these past few months putting this together, we hope to see you there. Have fun :)
